Washington, D.C. - A group of Democratic Attorneys General, led by New York’s Letitia James, have filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration for pausing federal approvals for wind energy projects. Their legal action comes despite the fact that taxpayers could be on the hook for hundreds of millions of dollars in wind-related infrastructure in New York alone. Yet for all the investment, electricity prices in the state continue to rise, including a recently proposed an 11.4% rate hike, proving that the promise of cheaper energy from wind is nowhere in sight.
“The fact that these AGs are running to court over a pause in federal handouts tells you everything you need to know about so-called ‘affordable’ wind energy,” said Daniel Turner, Founder and Executive Director of Power The Future. “If wind power were truly competitive, it wouldn’t need endless taxpayer bailouts and massive rate increases to survive. This lawsuit is not about energy—it’s about protecting a politically connected industry that can’t stand on its own.”
When gas prices surged to record highs in 2022, the same Attorneys General did nothing to stop the assault on American oil and gas production that drove those prices. Additionally, these AGs represent several states facing rising crime, yet their priority is securing more subsidies for wind turbines.
