Washington, D.C. — The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced it will leave the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) effective May 1, marking a significant shift for one of the cartel's longtime members. The move comes as the United States continues to set oil production and export records through the Trump's Administration's American Energy Dominance Agenda.
"American Energy Dominance is doing what decades of actions from the so-called 'experts' never could: breaking OPEC's grip on global markets," said Daniel Turner, Founder and Executive Director for Power The Future. "This is a clear signal that the cartel is losing relevance in a world where the United States is leading in production, innovation, and energy security. This is all made possible by President Trump putting our country first, and America's energy workers delivering real global results."
The UAE's decision comes less than five years after Biden Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm surrendered the global oil market to OPEC saying "oil is sold on a global market. And that market is controlled by a cartel. And that cartel is OPEC, largely." While the Biden administration showed complacency and timidity, President Trump continues to demonstrate American energy leadership which is unwilling to accept the status quo and which puts America first.
