Washington, D.C. — In a social media post today, President Trump issued a warning about opposition to AI and data centers while providing further support for the argument that America cannot allow politically motivated opposition to slow the infrastructure needed to maintain technological dominance. Artificial intelligence and a first-world economy require computing power, and that means data centers, reliable electricity, and the infrastructure necessary to support them. President Trump's warning comes just five months after Power The Future's groundbreaking report examined the finances of the data center opposition movement.
"This isn't a debate about whether communities should ask legitimate questions about development, it's about asking who benefits when paid propaganda hampers American innovation," said Daniel Turner, Founder and Executive Director of Power The Future. "Our report documented the money and the coordinated playbook behind the political machine opposing data centers. These activists can dress it up as grassroots outrage, but the result is the same: America builds less, China gains ground. President Trump is right: Whoever wins AI wins, and we should start acting like it."
Power The Future's report, Manufactured Outrage, exposed a nationwide network of professional environmental organizations and billionaire-backed donors working across at least 24 states to obstruct data center development. The report found more than 54 moratoriums, over 300 bills filed, and $98 billion in data center projects disrupted during the second quarter of 2025 alone.
Since then, the social media network X (formerly known as Twitter) uncovered a Chinese-led operation using 200,000 social media accounts in an effort to influence Americans against data center development.
