Washington, D.C. — Citing research from Power The Future, leadership of the House Energy and Commerce Committee is calling on FBI Director Kash Patel to investigate foreign influence campaigns targeting American artificial intelligence development and the energy infrastructure needed to support it. In their letter to Director Patel,  Chairman Brett Guthrie, Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee Chairman John Joyce, and Energy Subcommittee Chairman Bob Latta requested a briefing on what actions are being taken to investigate and stop foreign influence campaigns and "billionaire-backed activism" aimed at slowing U.S. AI development and blocking data centers. The letter cites Power The Future's recent report, "Manufactured Outrage," which exposed how national environmental groups, billionaire-backed donor networks, and professional activists are working to stop data centers and the power projects needed to support them.

"Chairman Guthrie, Chairman Joyce, and Chairman Latta deserve tremendous credit for demanding answers because the American people deserve to know who is really behind these campaigns," said Daniel Turner, Founder and Executive Director for Power The Future. "Local communities have every right to ask fair questions about data centers, but they also have a right to know whether the opposition showing up at their town halls is being funded by foreign billionaires or amplified by adversaries who do not want America to win the AI race. If China or any foreign-backed operation is helping orchestrate this opposition,  it's not activism, it is an attack on America's future."

Power The Future's "Manufactured Outrage" report details how national environmental activists are spending millions to block data centers and undermine President Trump's pro-growth agenda. In Virginia alone, the report found approximately $45.8 billion in data center projects have been disrupted while many of the donors funding the activist organizations behind the opposition remain shielded from public disclosure.
