Note to readers: Back in June 2021, I wrote a letter to the editor of the Silver City Press that I believe is worth sharing again. It captured my feelings about the state of our nation at the time and raised an important question: What are we going to do about it? Will we stand with our President to reverse the political and cultural decline that's quickly pushing us toward Third World status, or will we give in to the chaos driven by the modern Democratic Party, which arguably aligns closely with the goals of the official Communist Party USA, and is tearing us apart from within?
Without God, we are trousered apes
Dear Editor,
I am writing this in the hope that it strikes a chord with those who happen to read it. I say this because we as a people are about to lose our country. There is a satanic force loose upon this nation that has been a long time coming. It was spawned by generations of moral decay and apathy that we have contributed to and allowed to happen on our watch. But there is one thing that I and many others like me can still do. We must pledge our Honor in the face of ridicule and accusation to fight this pervasive evil that rages among us. We must make our voices heard loudly and persistently to defeat the spirit of the age that now threatens our very existence as a nation.
We must not let America become a footnote to history written by the satanic forces of misguided socialism. Pure socialism only works in a society of automatons, such as a colony of bees. A successful human society exists at the behest of the individuals that make up said societies. Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness protected by a government based on natural law handed down by nature and nature's God are what made America great. America is great because America is good. America can only be good when America abides by the Judeo-Christian principles embedded in our founding documents.
One might ask, why bring God into the mix when all one needs is to believe in the time-tested moral codes laid down by posterity? The answer is that without an absolute moral authority to base those codes on, it becomes an argument over my codes versus yours. Because of man's fallen nature, he cannot be the source of morality, as hypocrisy always reigns supreme. That hypocrisy can often be hidden from other men but not from God. History shows us that man's condition invariably defaults to tyranny. How much worse would his inhumanity be without fear of God's judgment?
"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" is as old as humanity. It was implanted within the soul of man by his Creator at the blooming of his self-awareness. This and the self-evident truths of the Ten Commandments must be taught to our children so that they know right from wrong. The knowledge of Christ's sacrifice at the Cross, giving us a path to salvation through forgiveness and mercy, will help ensure they have empathy for others. This is the way to build a conscience within society simply by the combined consciences of its individual members. That soft voice that whispers to us through our conscience and sometimes shouts at us in our pain is the Holy Spirit that carries God's Grace to all that seek it.
When God sent a part of himself into this physical world to suffer and die by one of the cruelest punishments of the time, it was by no means the end of sin. It was an offer of forgiveness and grace to those who choose to follow Christ. If we are to become righteous, we must strive to be on God's side instead of assuming that God is on our side. The truth is God is not on anyone's side in general, but rather the side of goodness and truth. The world is what it is, and without God's guidance, we are nothing but trousered apes.
Dan Stewart, Cliff
The Founders who were deists (Jefferson, Franklin, Paine, etc.) or less-than-orthodox Christians (Washington, Madison) were not operating in a moral vacuum. They were steeped in a culture saturated with biblical literacy, Protestant work ethic, and the Christian understanding of conscience and human dignity. They could question creeds, edit the Bible, or skip communion precisely because they inherited a civilization that had already done the heavy lifting of embedding those truths into law, custom, and education for centuries.
They were like men standing on a cliff that had been built up by generations of Christian masonry; they could walk to the edge and peer over, even chip away at some stones, because the foundation was so solid they never feared the whole thing collapsing beneath them. Today's secularists who want to dynamite the cliff while still enjoying the view don't realize the ground they're standing on was put there by the very thing they're attacking. Once you remove the source of the water, the downstream river doesn't immediately dry up; it just slowly runs lower until one day the people living on its banks wake up in a desert and have no idea how they got there.
Those deist Founders weren't fools, because they never denied the source. They just personalized their relationship to it. The danger now is an entire generation that's been taught that the river has always flowed by itself. The cliff we stand on is eroding faster than most realize. The question is no longer, "Will we lose the country?" The question is, "Do enough of us still remember where the solid ground came from to start rebuilding before the edge crumbles completely?"
The above letter lays out an outline of what must be done to save this nation, and it will take a generation to turn us around, but President Trump is off to a running start with everything he has accomplished so far. In just the first 10 months of his second term, he's delivered on key promises that align with restoring our moral and national foundations—putting America first, securing our borders, boosting the economy for everyday families, and promoting peace through strength.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it—God Bless America!
