Today was one of those days that I just couldn't make a quick decision regarding the topic of the column. There are so many ways to go but you know what every one of them have in common? The fact that politicians, bureaucrats, lobbyists, and the corporate propaganda media all believe the average American citizen is a moron. And to a large extent they are right.
New York City mayor Zoran Mamdani has made the trademark of his campaign and administration to attack the rich. Raise taxes on the wealthy. Freeze the rent because landlords are making too much money. No one deserves to make tens of millions of dollars. Yet he proposed, and the City Council passed an 18% pay raise for members of the City Council, the mayor, and members of his administration. Members of the council will make almost $200,000 a year while the mayor will make over $300,000 a year. Political positions are supposed to be motivated by a desire to make your community better not to make that much money. Once again, the lemmings don't see the hypocrisy. The politicians and bureaucrats rail against people who have made money by earning it in a free market yet vote themselves huge pay raises.
Senator John Thune gave a speech this week in which he tried to justify why he can't get anything done, especially when it comes to the Save America act. He shot back at press secretary Leavitt, telling her to get on the phones and work the senators to get the support needed. He went on to say he's not sure how popular the act is. But it's the one issue that the rank and file of both parties agree on, and they agree overwhelmingly. More than 72% of Democrat voters want the ACT passed while more than 80% of Republican voters support the bill. Independents are something like 90% in favor. Senator Thune is clearly someone who's gotten used to lying to the people and having them believe it.
The Democrat party keeps nominating candidates from the Democrat Socialist party. And they keep winning the Democrat primaries. Heck, they even nominated a confessed Nazi. Bernie Sanders tells the Democrat voters that it doesn't matter what they believe, we just need Democrats in larger numbers so we can take back control of Congress. Once they're in, Bernie says we'll be able to control their radical views. The truth is, Bernie agrees with more of their platform than he will admit publicly.
I was listening to one of our local politicians have a conversation with someone. He regurgitated the claim that this administration is putting kids, grandparents, innocent citizens in concentration camps. He likened the camps to those of World War II under the Nazis. But if that was true, wouldn't we have seen those pictures splashed all over the news? Of course we would. They tried to do it with Alexandria Ocasio Cortez. Remember the picture of her bent over with her head in her hands crying uncontrollably at the conditions these children were being placed in? It was fake. There weren't any people other than Border Patrol officers within 500 feet of her. Yet her supporters never questioned why they didn't show pictures of these poor children in dog kennels.
We can go on with the examples, but you know the problem. The politicians are right. People are stupid. Maybe it's because we don't want to believe that people in authority, people we supported, would openly lie to us. We see it in marriages all the time. We see it from the people we work for. But at some point, don't we have to wake up and say, enough is enough?
