Some of you may recall that a few months ago two former NBA players, Enos Cantor Freedom and Royce White, declared their eligibility for the 2027 WNBA draft. Both men said they now identified as women and they would like to continue their playing career as members of the WNBA. Of course, that started a whole debate about whether or not they could play in the WNBA. The one thing that was not up for debate was that if these two people were allowed to play, they would dominate the league. It would be a high profile, undeniable example of how men are biologically superior to women when it comes to physical activities.
The league did not take a hard and fast position on the declaration made by both men for the draft. We know the reason why. It would force them to define what a woman is. So, the league chose to put off making a decision and declared they would look into the matter and issue an opinion later. In the interim, Kathy Ingram, the commissioner of the WNBA, gave several interviews and even testified in front of Congress. Her argument was always the same; I'm not a scientist, I'm not a doctor, so I cannot tell you what a woman is. Now she has said before along with many of the coaches and players in the NBA that if you believe you're a woman, then you are a woman. But this particular situation was going to expose one of the biggest flaws in their argument supporting the idea that men can be women.
If Enos and Royce were allowed to play in the WNBA it would kill the league. There is not one individual currently in the league that could physically compete with either of them. Both were mid-level professionals in the NBA. In fact, during this I've seen several people argue that they were failed professional players just trying to put themselves back into the spotlight. But there is no doubt and everyone in the WNBA knows it, these two men would absolutely destroy the women in the professional league. They couldn't stop them offensively and they would not be able to get by them defensively.
The league finally issued an official statement this week. Despite the fact that they have said multiple times that they cannot define what a woman is, they pointed out that the bylaws said you must be a woman in order to play in the league. Since Royce and Enos are clearly not women they would not be allowed to declare for the draft and would not be included in the league in any way shape or form. So apparently, they can define what a man is but cannot define what a woman is.
But hold on boys and girls. This is going to get fun. Enos has said he is going to file suit against the WNBA for declaring that he is not a woman despite his declaration that he is a woman. There has long been speculation about two or three players in the WNBA being biological men. But it has not been addressed officially by the league and when asked, these players ignore the question and claim to be women. Enos will file the lawsuit and that will force the league, its commissioner, its coaches, and its players that have spoken out to get on the stand and say under oath what they have said publicly, I can't define what a woman is but I know Enos is not a woman.
The likelihood that it actually gets to a public trial will be small because this would expose every fallacy of the argument that men are women if they declare themselves to be. And let's not forget, none of us care if you want to live as the opposite sex. But you don't get to change the rules.
