I was reading an opinion piece on The Federalist website written by Michael Smith. He was telling a story about watching a video of Michael Shapiro at one of his college appearances. A transgender female approached the podium to castigate Michael about his opinion regarding transgender women. He regurgitated the narrative that transgender rights are being trampled upon without being able to give any concrete examples.

This person of course fell back on the idea that he should be able to use facilities designated for females. Shapiro pointed out the fact that this person is a biological male, and any biological male is not welcome in a female designated area. I cannot go into a women's restroom or locker room without suffering negative consequences. And that's the way it should be. What this person said in response to that nailed exactly what these radical transgenders want. He said, "I just want to be comfortable." He claimed he has a right to be comfortable. I don't think he understands rights.

First, let's assume that we do have a right to be comfortable. What about the right of biological women and girls to be comfortable in their spaces? His presence in female spaces makes them extremely uncomfortable. His presence in male designated spaces would not make most men uncomfortable. His mere presence would probably be completely ignored after some initial curiosity. But to many on the far left, their comfort or their rights trump anyone else's rights or comfort. Theirs are more important.

Second, you don't have a right to be comfortable. Life is not comfortable. In fact, we are often told that if we want to grow as people we must get out of our comfort zone. Being comfortable leads to apathy. Being comfortable is antithetic to progress. Whether as an individual or a society, we must be uncomfortable in order to grow and improve. Can you imagine the chaos if we actually did have a right to be comfortable? Well, I guess we're watching it right now in some form. It's pure chaos.

This man went on to make the claim that forcing him to be uncomfortable is what fascists do. They force you to conform to their belief system. That's ironic. Because the left is the one that generally wants us to conform to their belief system, no matter how much it might go into the face of reality or ignore the science. This person was putting his comfort above that of other people and demanding that they ignore their discomfort in order to please him. It's kind of like the emperor has no clothes. Despite what their eyes told them, that the emperor was naked, he demanded that they believe he was wearing the most beautiful set of robes ever made.

The truth of the matter is, in our society even if we disagree with your choice to live a certain lifestyle, we will let you live the way you want. Yes, there may be some restrictions such as not using female facilities if you're a biological male. But, if you just live your life and don't force us to acknowledge it or celebrate it, we let you live your life the way you want. Just don't hurt anybody else. But these people not only want to be comfortable in their choices, but they also want to be celebrated for it. They want to be treated as special. And we save that designation for very few people. But it's a choice we make, not a choice that is forced upon us.
