Dear Editor,
I am writing in my role as Chair of the Board of Directors of Hidalgo Medical Services.
We have read with interest the ongoing series by Frost McGahey, including the June 3, 2025 article with the headline "Insurance Company Alleges Fraud." It is unclear why Ms. McGahey has never contacted HMS before publishing. It is also unclear why an eight-year-old news story is now being revisited, and represented to the public as if it were based on recent events.
Had Ms. McGahey contacted us, we could have corrected her story. There was no settlement with the insurance company. They dropped their suit. No court or jury made any finding of fault, misbehavior, malfeasance, or other untoward activity on the part of HMS, its CEO, employees, or directors. At the time of the prior lawsuit against HMS the HMS Board found no reason to take any action against the CEO, Dan Otero. Nothing in Ms. McGahey's piece contains new information, nor does it cause the HMS Board to re-think its confidence in Mr. Otero and his ability to effectively lead HMS.
HMS is proud to devote its energy and aspirations to deliver the best quality care to southwest New Mexico and will continue to do so in the future.
Sincerely,
Carmen Acosta
