I had never heard of Grant County NM before and now I wish I never had heard of it.
Are you telling us nobody knew this guy was a psychotic?
So the one deputy is suspended with pay?
And the officers who filmed and laughed?
And the leadership that created an environment where this stuff flourishes?
I want to know why the deputies that filmed it and laughed and the leadership are still working.
And I want to know how they interview job applicants and supervise behavior.
This part of the story tells me that people knew what type of person this deputy was (and it tells me what type of people his coworkers and leadership were):
"Gomez asked to hold the rabbit, but the deputy "told him no because he felt that Deputy Gomez would hurt the animal," according to the affidavit. The deputy later told State Police he "believed that if he just set the animal loose, Deputy Gomez would be able to pick it up and hurt it."
I feel really bad for the officer who tried to protect the rabbit. He should resign due to mental torment and sue Grant County for millions of dollars.
But then again, it seems like that one kindhearted deputy should be the only one still employed.
Whenever I think of New Mexico from now on, I will think of Grant County and the sick individuals that work there.
Please tell me the story is wrong and I will apologize.
