Editor-

I read New Mexico House Bill 518, relating to the LGBTQ+ community and discovered it said virtually the same thing over and over within its two-sentence statement. — Grant County Beat, Mar. 14, 2025.

Although, I'll have to admit I've never heard the word "Expansive" included in the multiple sequence of nouns and symbols common to the phrase.

Maybe, "Expansive" is New Mexico's contribution to the term's official state designation.

AN ACT
RELATING TO PUBLIC HOLIDAYS; DESIGNATING THE FOURTH TUESDAY OF
JANUARY OF EACH ODD-NUMBERED YEAR AS "LESBIAN, GAY, BISEXUAL,
TRANSGENDER, QUEER AND EXPANSIVE DAY".

Who writes this stuff? Surely within the New Mexico House of Representatives there are at least two or three legislators capable of putting together a bill that doesn't read like it was composed by the limited skills of a third grader.

I'm not disputing passage of the bill. Actually, it's not unexpected, considering New Mexico's Blue v Red lopsided political composition.

It's just I imagined there would be a little more thought and creative prose contained in the statement, other than repeatedly reminding us of the benefits the LGBTQ+ folks have contributed to society.

I got the point after the second incantation. The third and fourth began to sound like stuttering!
