"Silver Regional SASS,” at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Silver City

Download as iCal file

Sunday, April 03, 2022, 10:00am

Emma McKinley, Outreach and Education Coordinator for Silver Regional SASS, will be talking about Silver Regional Silver Regional Sexual Assault Support Services, which is a local rape crisis center that focuses on preventing and responding to sexual violence in our community.

Silver Regional SASS provides a wide array of services, and McKinley will explain a few of those services in detail, such as sexual assault nurse examinations, forensic interviewing, counseling, and prevention work.

“There is a hefty content notice / trigger warning for this presentation,” McKinley said. “We will be talking about sexual violence although there will NOT be any detailed descriptions of sexual violence, but it will be mentioned, including sexual violence against children/minors.”

This subject is important for Unitarians Universalists for many reasons. It relates most directly to the 1st, 2nd, 6th, and 7th principles.

Emma Eileen McKinley is the Outreach and Education Coordinator for Silver Regional Sexual Assault Support Services. Currently a student of Social Work, Political Science, and Philosophy at Western New Mexico University, McKinley spent two years as a volunteer advocate before moving into their current role in the summer of 2021. They are passionate about violence prevention, accessibility, and harm reduction, and believe that cultivating a culture of consent can be a powerful antidote to oppression. When not creating infographics or dreaming of ways to inspire social change, they enjoy reading, gardening, dancing, textile crafts, and spending time with their three cats."

We may have the back door open and ceiling fans going, so please bring a jacket to stay warm.
