Doug Winter speaks to the Rotary
Tuesday, November 08, 2022, 12:00pm - 01:00pm |
On Tuesday, November 8, 2022, Doug Winter, a member of the Silver City Rotary Club, but currently living in El Paso, TX, will speak to the Rotary club about the work he is doing with two shelters for asylum seekers in Juarez, Mexico. Winter’s interest began after seeing the conditions of the people living on the streets, and meeting Father Hector Cano, who was running two shelters.
This was in 2019. Moving ahead, Winter established Dormir es Poder, (Sleep is Power), and in March of 2020 he received his tax exempt status. Winter has spoken to Rotary before and will be giving the club his updates.
Enrique Valenzuela, the Coordinator General of the State Population Council (COESPO) of the State of Chihuahua in Mexico, may join Doug Winter’s presentation. The Council is in charge of the Welfare and Safety of all immigrants in the State of Chihuahua.
The Rotary Club meets every Tuesday from 12-1 p.m. for lunch in the WNMU Student Memorial Building, Second Floor, Sunset Room. There is a brief “meet and greet”, a short business meeting and then the speaker has the floor. The club welcomes members of the public to the meetings. Guests are asked to contribute $10.00 if they want a hot lunch with salad, dessert and coffee. If anyone is unable to attend in person, the Zoom link can be obtained by email: info@silvercityrotary.org for the link.
