Samantha AnglinSixth Judicial District Attorney Norman R. Wheeler announced that both BRUCE ANGLIN and SAMANTHA ANGLIN were sentenced on Monday, September 21, 2026, by Sixth Judicial District Court Judge Jennifer DeLaney. Chief Deputy District Attorney Cashmala Fazal represented the state during both sentencing hearings.
BRUCE ANGLIN was charged and pled to the following crimes:
Count 1. Abuse of a Child (Does Not Result in Death or Great Bodily Harm) 3rd Degree,
Count 2. Conspiracy to Commit Abuse of a child (No Death or Great bodily Harm) 1st Offense (Intentional or Recklessly) 4th Degree,
Count 3. Abuse of a Child (Does Not Result in Death or Great Bodily Harm) 3rd Degree,
Count 4. Conspiracy to Commit Abuse of a Child (Does Not Result in Death or Great Bodily Harm)
4th Degree,
Count 5. False Imprisonment 4th Degree Felony,
Count 6. False Imprisonment – Conspiracy 4th Degree Felony.
The State argued for the maximum sentence of 12 years, incarceration. The defense requested a suspended sentence (Probation) and 454 days of credit for pre-sentence confinement. Judge DeLaney sentenced Bruce Anglin to 7.5 years to be served in the New Mexico Department of Corrections, followed by 4.5 years of supervised probation. He was given a pre-sentence confinement credit of 454 days, to which credit is mandated under the law. As a condition of Bruce Anglin’s probation, he is prohibited from having any contact with children.
SAMANTHA ANGLIN made a statement at Bruce Anglin’s sentencing hearing. She detailed the years of abuse that she and her two children suffered from Bruce.
At a previous hearing, SAMANTHA ANGLIN was charged and pled to the following crime:
Count 1. Abuse of a Child (Does Not Result in Death or Great Bodily Harm) 3rd Degree
She was sentenced to 3 years in the New Mexico Department of Corrections, which Judge DeLaney suspended her prison time and placed her on supervised probation. Samantha also received a pre-sentence confinement credit of 454 days to which credit is mandated under the law. Samantha officially relinquished her parental rights to both children.
On June 20, 2025, Luna County Sheriff’s deputies received a call regarding a child that was believed to be locked in an outside metal shed on a rural property located near Lewis Flats and Pojoaque Roads. The officer located the rural property and found the entrance gate locked. After announcing and activating his emergency lights, the officer was able to gain access to the remote property through a barbed wire fence. While walking around the property, he heard a child’s voice calling out from an outside shed.
He located a six-year-old girl locked inside of the shed, with no electricity or running water but had a water bottle. She was able to communicate with the officer through a broken window. The officer was able to discern that the child had been locked inside the shed for more than 24 hours and that her parents and younger sister were currently in town.
After forcing entry into the shed, deputies discovered the child living in deplorable, filthy conditions. She had visible bruises, a swollen eye, and told the medics that she had eaten very little the previous day. She was immediately transported to Mimbres Memorial Hospital for medical attention.
