BridgeVillageAdditional orientation sessions are now scheduled for anyone interested in learning more about Bridge Village, a non-profit organization being established in Grant County to help residents maintain independence and remain in their home and community as they age.

The next two orientations will be held on July 20 from 4 to 6 p.m. and July 27 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the Silver City Public Library.  An overview of the nationwide Village-to-Village movement will be presented with specific information on the programs Bridge Village plans to offer locally.

Attendees interested in signing up to be volunteers will be given opportunity and assistance to enroll at these orientation sessions.  Volunteers are then vetted through background checks.  Anyone unable to attend one of the orientation sessions may apply through the website at www.bridgevillage.org.

"Volunteers who completed applications at previous orientation sessions are now participating in training specific to our procedures," Aimee Jaurequi, Bridge Village Chairman said.  "Once we get Volunteers organized, we will be ready to onboard members and launch our Village."

"At this time, we are preparing teams to address three primary areas: compassion, helping hands, and technology, We hope to add transportation in the near future," Jaurequi explained.

"While we have many resources available to us through the national Village-to-Village model, we are still tackling a number of challenges and establishing partnerships to ensure Bridge Village will be tailored to meet the needs of our community.  Advocacy will be an integral and ongoing component of making our Village the most relevant and functional for the unique diversity of Grant County and its aging population."
