The NMSU Cooperative Extension Service in Grant County will be hosting a Calving Management Workshop on March 5 at 5:30 p.m. at the Extension Office to support local livestock producers during one of the most critical times of the year.
Calving season has a direct impact on the economic stability of ranching operations in our county. This workshop is designed to provide research-based, practical guidance to help producers reduce calf loss, improve herd health outcomes, and strengthen overall operation sustainability.
Participants will also have the opportunity to earn 2 credits through the Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) program, reinforcing industry standards for animal care, food safety, and consumer confidence.
Workshop topics will include:
Early recognition and management of calving complications
Proper intervention techniques
Colostrum and newborn calf management
Biosecurity considerations
Best management practices that protect both producers and the broader beef industry
Programs like this reflect the role of Extension in providing year-round, locally accessible education that supports agricultural viability, risk reduction, and economic resilience in Grant County.
We welcome your attendance and appreciate the continued support of our county leadership in ensuring these educational opportunities remain available to our agricultural community.
Please feel free to contact our office for additional information.
