Annual Fundraising Event Features Local Musicians, Food and Fun!
Silver City -- The Silver City Museum's 42nd July 4th Ice Cream Social happens on the holiday, Saturday, July 4th, 11 am - 3 pm, featuring local musicians, food and craft vendors, free children's activities, the ever-popular cake walk, and more. This annual celebration and fundraising event takes place in the beautifully shady and cool museum courtyard at 312 West Broadway. Admission is free.
A beloved community event since 1977, this year's ice cream social features musical performances by the eclectic, one-man-band, Flicker, the Silver City String Beans, and Acoustic Gap, along with a performance by the Conservatory of Dance. New this year are spontaneous "pop-up" performances by the Raging Grannies singing group, and actors from Silver City Theater will be costumed and in character as Madame Millie, Billy the Kid and other iconic, Silver City historic figures.
Food and craft vendors featured this year include Mint Chip Creamery, Soul Sip Apothecary, The Cuban Guy, Fork Off, Capstone Copper, TWD Woodcraft and LULAC.
Tickets may be purchased for a variety of refreshments, including popcorn, hot dogs, and a selection of specialty ice cream treats, all provided by Food Basket. Free children's activities include story time, chalk art, jump rope, and more, all of which will be held under a large, shaded canopy. Face painting, clay crafts, mosaics, photo frames, painted wood cutouts and temporary tattoos will also be offered for a small fee. All proceeds from ticket sales help support museum events, exhibitions and programming.
While enjoying this community celebration, visitors can also learn more about current exhibits and programs at the museum, including Nuestra Voz: The Chihuahua Hill Story exhibit, featuring dozens of oral histories from residents of this historic neighborhood, as well as Healers & Heroines: Women and the Shaping of Local Health Care, which explores the vital role that women have played in local health care prevention and services. The Museum Gift Store will also be open for browsing the carefully curated collection of unique and eclectic gift items, including one of the region's best selections of local and regional history books.
This year, the "world-famous" cake walk features dozens of cakes, giving cake lovers favorable odds of leaving with cake in hand. Music lovers will enjoy a wide variety of musical styles throughout the day, including regional music, folk and traditional tunes.
