Celia "La Guera" Ruiz Obituary
Celia B. Ruiz, 76, a resident of Deming, entered eternal rest to be with the Lord on Friday, May 22, 2026, in the tranquility of her home surrounded by all her loving family.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Thursday, May 28, 2026 at 11 o'clock in the morning at Baca's Funeral Chapel. Officiating the service will be Raul Granillo. The service will conclude with burial at Mountain View Cemetery.
"La Guera," as many lovingly knew her, was born on November 22, 1949, in Las Cruces, Namiquipa to Eufemio "Flavio" Barrera and Celia Barraza. She married the love of her life, Leonel S. Ruiz, on June 14, 1971. In 1986, they moved to Deming where together they raised their four children: Gildardo, Jaime, Sandy, and Jessica.
Celia worked for several years at Border Foods and later dedicated 20 years of service to Deming Electronics. She was known for her caring and empathetic heart, as well as her love for cooking. She often showed her love by preparing and delivering warm meals to family and friends who were ill or in need.
After retirement, Celia devoted her time to caring for her husband and helping raise her grandchildren, who were the greatest joy of her life. She faithfully attended Living Word Family Church for many years until her health no longer allowed her to attend. Even then, she continued strengthening her faith at home through reading the Bible and maintaining a close relationship with God.
She is survived by her children: Gildardo Ruiz (Brumilda) of Las Cruces Namiquipa, Mexico; Jaime Ruiz (Martha) of El Mirage, Arizona; Sandy Ruiz Gallosa (Jaime) of Deming, New Mexico and Jessica Ruiz Tena (Edgar) of Deming, New Mexico; honorary son Gabriel Saenz of Deming, New Mexico; and her siblings Hortencia Calzadillas, Anita Barraza, Maria Isabel Barraza, Joaquin Barrera, Octavio Barrera, and Lucio Barrera. She also leaves behind 13 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren who will forever cherish her love and memory.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eufemio and Celia Barrera; her beloved husband, Leonel Ruiz; her sister, Rosalba Caballero; and her brothers, Prisciliano Barrera and Cornelio Barrera.
Those who will carry her to her final resting place are Gildardo (Lalo) Ruiz, Jaime (Jimmy) Ruiz, Jaime Gallosa, Ethan Nevarez, Gio Gallosa, and Isaac Nevarez.
Honorary Pallbearers are Edgar Tena, Jaime "Jaimito" Ruiz, and Gabriel Saenz.
Celia (Guera) will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her loving heart, unwavering faith, and devotion to her family.

"La Güera", como cariñosamente la conocían muchos, nació el 22 de noviembre de 1949 en Las Cruces, Namiquipa, hija de Eufemio "Flavio" Barrera y Celia Barraza. Contrajo matrimonio con el amor de su vida, Leonel S. Ruiz, el 14 de junio de 1971. En 1986 se mudaron a Deming, donde juntos criaron a sus cuatro hijos: Gildardo, Jaime, Sandy y Jessica.
Celia trabajó durante varios años en Border Foods y posteriormente dedicó 20 años de servicio a Deming Electronics. Era conocida por su corazón cariñoso y compasivo, así como por su amor por la cocina. Muchas veces demostraba su cariño preparando y llevando comida caliente a familiares y amigos que se encontraban enfermos o necesitaban apoyo.
Después de jubilarse, Celia dedicó su tiempo a cuidar de su esposo y ayudar a criar a sus nietos, quienes fueron el mayor amor y orgullo de su vida. Asistió fielmente por muchos años a Living Word Family Church hasta que su salud ya no se lo permitió. Le sobreviven sus hijos: Gildardo Ruiz (Brumilda) de Las Cruces Namiquipa Chihuahua, México; Jaime Ruiz (Martha) de El Mirage Arizona; Sandy Ruiz Gallosa (Jaime) de Deming New Mexico; Jessica Ruiz Tena (Edgar) de Deming New Mexico; su hijo honorario Gabriel Saenz de Deming New Mexico; así como sus hermanos Hortencia Calzadillas, Anita Barraza, Maria Isabel Barraza, Joaquin Barrera, Octavio Barrera y Lucio Barrera. También deja 13 nietos y 8 bisnietos que siempre atesorarán su amor y memoria.
Le precedieron en la muerte sus padres, Eufemio y Celia Barrera; su amado esposo, Leonel Ruiz; su hermana Rosalba Caballero; y sus hermanos Prisciliano Barrera y Cornelio Barrera.
Quienes la llevarán a su última morada serán Gildardo "Lalo" Ruiz, Jaime "Jimmy" Ruiz, Jaime Gallosa, Ethan Nevarez, Gio Gallosa e Isaac Nevarez.
