Danny Ross Ruebush passed away on Thursday, September 3, 2026, after a short but courageous battle with cancer, a fighter to the end. Born on June 27,1955 in Deming, NM, to Shelton Walker Ruebush and Pernedia "Nita" Hays Ruebush. Danny lived a life deeply rooted in hard work, faith, family, and a profound love for the great outdoors.
His early days were spent growing up alongside his nine siblings and many cousins on the farm at Red Mountain. Well known for getting into shenanigans alongside his best friend Paul Offutt, he fondly described his childhood as an adventurous one, but kept some of the "good stories" to himself.
At the heart of Danny's life was his beloved wife of 47 years, Debbie. Danny and Debbie were true partners in every sense of the word. Side-by-side, they built a life together, farming the land, working hard, and raising their seven children.
After graduating from Deming High School Danny dabbled in a few careers, helping to build the smelter at Playas, NM, drying chile at Sun Products and building gas plants throughout the U.S. for Holloman as a construction superintendent, however, his true passion was farming.
A farmer for most of his life, Danny possessed a lifelong connection to working the land. His journey took him away to farm shrimp in West Texas briefly but New Mexico, the "Land of Enchantment" always held his heart, as he farmed for most of his years in Deming. Danny loved his ranch in west Texas where he built his hunting cabin and he spent many cold winters in a deer stand or around the campfire with his hunting partners. When he wasn't at the ranch hunting, he could be found tending to his tomato plants and tinkering on his latest project at his mountain house in Mayhill. His mountain house was his escape where he enjoyed the quiet beauty of nature and spent his days feeding and watching the deer, elk, and humming birds.
Danny's greatest joy was his family. Passing down to his children not only a strong work ethic, but a lifelong appreciation for nature. His children cherish fond memories of learning to fish, camp, and embrace nature under his guidance. An avid outdoorsman, Danny was happiest whenever he had a rod or rifle in hand, surrounding himself with the wilderness he loved so much. As "Popo", he continued to share his love and passion with his grandkids, traveling the country to visit often and creating lasting memories, but he most cherished when they joined him at the ranch in Texas or the mountain house in Mayhill where he would take them on adventures in the side by side to feed the wild animals.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Debbie Ruebush of Mayhill, NM; his sons Daniel (Lori) Ruebush of Aztec, NM and Ty (Codi) Ruebush of Chandler, AZ; his daughters Joetta (Saleem) Khan of Chester, NJ; Lora Ruebush of Anchorage, AK; Cassie (Daniel) Davis of Queen Creek, AZ; Kayla (Stephen) Ruebush of Alamogordo, NM; Shayla (Bill) Breault of Roaring Brook, PA, and 13 grandchildren Taylor, Marcus, Danny "Danny Boy", Kelsey, Reagan, Mina, Liv, Kyndal, Cora, Lydia, Anita "Gabry", Anastasia, and Aiden "Scooter" who brought endless warmth and joy to his life.
He is also survived by his siblings Patsy (Don) Morris of Fort Collins, CO; Mitchell (Darla) Ruebush of Rigby, ID; Garry (Catherine) Ruebush of Deming, NM; Delmar (Debbie) Ruebush of Deming, NM; Lora (Gene) Robinson of Deming, NM; Annette (Jim) Warczinski of Deming, NM, and Linda (Ralph) Shifflet of Argyle, TX, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins.
Danny was preceded in death by his parents Shelton and Nita Ruebush; his brothers Shelton Walker "Bo" Ruebush and Donn B. Ruebush; as well as his sister Jeanetta Ruebush.
A graveside service will be held at 11 o'clock in the morning on Saturday, September 19, 2026 at Mountain View Cemetery (3410 E. Pine St. Deming, NM 88030).
