Delia Barragan Altamirano, 71, a resident of Santa Clara, NM entered eternal rest Friday, September 4, 2026 at her residence surrounded by her family. She was born January 10, 1955 in Silver City, NM to Manuel Barragan and Ramona Peña.
It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, mother-in-law, sister, grandmother, and friend. She was a woman who loved fiercely, gave endlessly, and had one of the biggest hearts anyone could ever know. She never knew how to say no when someone needed help. Whether it was a family member, a friend, or someone she barely knew, she would give whatever she could, without hesitation and without expecting anything in return. Helping others was simply who she was. Her love for her family was immeasurable. She was the kind of wife, mother, mother-in-law, sister, and grandmother who made those around her feel loved, protected, and cared for. Her family was her greatest treasure, and she poured her heart into creating memories that will be cherished for generations. Mom found joy in the simple things in life, especially spending time fishing with the people she loved. She also possessed an incredible gift with her hands. She was a remarkably talented seamstress and crocheter, creating countless beautiful and meaningful pieces for family and friends.
Each stitch carried a little piece of her heart, and the things she made will forever serve as treasured reminders of her love, patience, creativity, and generosity. She touched more lives than she probably ever realized. Her kindness, compassion, laughter, generosity, and unwavering willingness to help others left an imprint on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. She gave so much of herself to others, and her legacy will live on through the countless lives she touched and the memories she created. To say she will be missed is an understatement. We will miss her voice, her laughter, her hugs, her stories, her kindness, and the way she made everyone feel like they mattered. Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort knowing that her love will never leave us. It lives on in every beautiful piece she created, every lesson she taught, every memory she gave us, and in the hearts of every person she touched. She leaves behind a lifetime of love and memories that will forever be treasured by her husband, children, grandchildren, siblings, extended family, and countless friends who were blessed to know her.
She is survived by her loving husband, Isidro of the family home; two sons, Leonard Altamirano and wife Katrina of Morenci, AZ; Adam Altamirano and wife Camille of Hurley; two daughters, April Altamirano of Silver City; Jeanette Medran and husband Tony of Tyrone; seventeen grandchildren, ten great grandchildren; two brothers, Candelario Barragan and wife Jeanie of San Manuel, AZ; Jimmy Barragan and wife Grace of Albuquerque; two sisters, Amelia Acosta and husband Dennis of Denver, CO; Connie Parra and husband Danny of Silver City; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Richard, Manuel, and David Barragan; three sisters, Rufina Chacon, Linda Jacquez, and Olivia Barragan.
Visitation will be Friday, September 11th from 5-6pm at Terrazas Funeral Chapels with the holy rosary to commence at 6pm with Deacon Art Gutierrez reciting. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, September 12th at 10am at Santa Clara Catholic Church with Father Theodore Ekwem officiating. Concluding service cremation will take place at Terrazas Crematory. Inurnment will take place Monday, September 14th at Fort Bayard National Cemetery. Pallbearers are Isidro Trevizo, Dominque Altamirano, LJ Altamirano, Randy Medran, Lawrence Trevizo, and Adam Altamirano Jr.
