Josephine Prislan, 83, a resident of Deming, NM went into the arms of the Lord on Sunday, March 29, 2026 at Mountain View Hospital in Las Cruces, NM surrounded by the love of her family.
Josephine was born on March 19, 1943 in Bayard, NM to Manuel and Veneranda Dean.
After graduating from Cobre High School she left home and joined the military to seek adventure and opportunities away from a small town. Eventually she returned back home to Grant County and worked at the Court House before becoming a homemaker where she raised her children. She loved to bake, can fruits and vegetables from her trees and gardens.
She returned to the work force working at State Farm and the Forest Service. After her retirement she settled in Deming, NM where she lived the rest of her years taking care of her grandchildren and her beloved pupasito Bella (dog).
She was a sweet person who did not love loud but loved deeply. She will always be our beloved mom, daughter, sister, friend, and grandma goose.
She is survived by one son, Michael Prislan and his wife Alicia of Las Cruces, NM; two daughters, Veronica Prislan of Bayard, NM and Sabrina Gomez and her husband Robert of Deming, NM; three brothers, Charlie Dean of Santa Clara, NM; Ervin Dean and his wife Zita of Denver, CO and Patrick Dean and his wife Lydia Albuquerque, NM; two sisters, Carol Telles and her husband Henry of Las Cruces, NM and Lillian Dean and her companion Fernando Padilla of Las Cruces, NM; eight grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by both of her parents; her husband, Norbert Prislan; her companion, Jesus Alvarado; two brothers, Freddie Dean and Leroy Dean; and her beautiful granddaughter, Angelica Gomez.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 from 5-6pm at Terrazas Funeral Chapels in Santa Clara, NM with the holy rosary beginning at 6pm with Deacon Richard Maynes Jr. officiating. Memorial mass will be held on Thursday, April 9, 2026 at 11am at Santa Clara Parish Church with Father Casmir Anozie officiating. Concluding services with an inurnment will be at Fort Bayard National Cemetery with military honors where she will be laid to rest with her husband.
Serving as pallbearers are John Michael Prislan, Raymond Gomez, Andrew Prislan, Marcos Valerio, Ervin Dean and Patrick Dean.
Honorary pallbearers are Henry Telles, Charlie Dean, Bobbi Jo Garcia and Kianna Gomez.
