Marcia was born January 15, 1940 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Maurice and Freda Day. She married William Calvin Cook III on August 6, 1955 in Ft. Sumner, New Mexico. Marcia and Bill were married for 67 wonderful years until his passing July 25, 2023.
Marcia and Bill came to Deming in 1960 from Lubbock Texas. Marcia worked at 1st New Mexico Bank for over 30 years. Her excellent skills in accounting, knowledge of complex banking processes, and dedication to service were a great asset in helping grow the bank. Marcia earned multiple certifications in banking and served in several leadership roles during her tenure. Soon after moving to Deming, Marcia and Bill became active members of Holy Family Catholic Church. Marcia's deep devotion to Christ was exhibited by her service to Holy Family Church and the community. She was a member of the Choir, Alter Society, Finance Committee, and any endeavor that needed a helping hand.
Marcia's beautiful singing voice could be heard at church services, weddings, and funerals for over 50 years. Marcia and Bill helped with the annual church Klobase fundraising barbeque for more than 40 years. Marcia could always be seen delivering pounds of Potato Salad and working with her treasured Holy Family friends selling Bingo cards. Marcia loved Deming and participated in many community activities. She volunteered as a Boy Scout and Girl Scout leader, served as a member of the Deming School Board for 12 years, and served as President of the Toastmasters International organization. Marcia also sang and acted in many Deming Community Theatre productions. Marcia's family remembers her as an amazing cook who canned everything, master seamstress that could sew an outfit for any occasion, and knit or needle point a beautiful keepsake. Through it all, Marcia never missed an event in which her children were involved. She traveled thousands of miles to make every game, cheerleading event, or school activity. Marcia was certainly a Deming Pioneer that was always there for her family or any friend that needed her.
Marcia truly dedicated her life to faith, family, and all her cherished Deming friends.
