Santa Fe, NM — Today, HB99, critical medical malpractice reform legislation, passed the New Mexico House, taking a major step toward fixing the state's health care crisis.

New Mexico is the only state in the nation to lose doctors since 2019. Patients are waiting months for care or traveling out of state to see specialists. Years of failed policies by Democrats have driven providers away and made access to care worse.

House Republicans led the effort to advance HB 99 and push real solutions for patients.

"This crisis didn't happen by accident," said House Republican Leader Gail Armstrong. "Because of bad policies pushed by Democrats, families are now waiting months to see a doctor or leaving New Mexico altogether just to get basic care. That is unacceptable. HB 99 is about fixing what's been broken and keeping doctors in our state."

House Republican Whip Alan Martinez added, "If we want more doctors and shorter wait times, we must create a fair legal environment. HB 99 moves us in the right direction."

HB 99 now heads to the Senate. House Republicans urge swift action to send this bill to the Governor's desk and deliver real relief for patients.
