Alamogordo, New Mexico – The Big Bang STEM EXPO is slated for Saturday, June 27, 2026, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Tays Special Event Center on the campus of NMSU-A. Join the International Space Hall of Fame Foundation (ISHFF) and the New Mexico Museum of Space History as we celebrate the best STEM programs in southern New Mexico!
This free family event features rocket building, mining asteroids, blasting off with bubbles, the science of sound and more. Class size is limited to 25, so sign up today! Three different classes start at 10:00 am, with sign in at 9:45 am. Students up to 12 years old can register to build Solid Fuel Alpha Rockets with the Alamogordo Amateur Rocket Society. Then, on July 18, join the club at the Mesa Verde Rocket Park and launch your rocket! STARBASE Holloman educators are presenting Blasting Off with Bubbles for all ages and the New Mexico Museum of Space History educators feature Mining Asteroids for students 6 years and older.
At noon, three more classes kick off! Aspiring rocket scientists can build a Solid Fuel E2X rocket and join the launch fun on July 18. The Science of Sound class, led by STARBASE Holloman, is guaranteed fun for all ages of students. Or, kids can build their Eggstronaut and see if it survives a landing with the Museum of Space History!

Other exhibitors with exciting demonstrations include Sunspot (learn how scientists use light to study the universe), White Sands National Park (get your Junior Ranger goodies!), Women in Aviation (they'll have model airplanes to build!), NMSU-A's very cool VR lab will be on hand, the Alamogordo RCers, PEO will have info on education scholarships, Spaceport America will have cool swag and demos on how spaceflight affects the body, and several other groups. Don't miss Sugar Bears food truck on the way in, with lemonade, limeade, and ice cream!
