SANTA FE – The New Mexico Department of Wildlife is auctioning nine premium hunting opportunities through June 23 to raise funds for wildlife conservation programs, with proceeds supporting the state's Game Protection Fund.

Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham has authorized the auction pursuant to 2007 legislation. The Department has partnered with Ducks Unlimited to offer the New Mexico Governor's Special Hunt Auction online in 2026. Funds from the public auction support the Game Protection Fund and are used solely for projects and programs directly related to the Department's mission.

The auction opened on Monday, June 8, and closes Tuesday, June 23 at 8 p.m. MDT. This year's opportunities include:

• An exotics hunt package that includes an either-sex oryx license for any public hunt, and an either-sex Barbary sheep license in any open GMU;
• A Coues deer license in Game Management Units (GMUs 23, 24, 26 or 27);

• An elk license in GMUs 34 or 36;

• An elk license in GMUs 16 A-E;

• An elk license in GMU 55A (Valle Vidal);

• A mule deer license in GMU 4 or 5;

• A mule deer license in GMU 2 A-C;

• A pronghorn antelope license in any open GMU.

Each winning bidder must select an existing hunt code and follow all rules, regulations and restrictions associated with the selected hunt code. These hunts allow selecting an additional five consecutive days either before or after the established dates of an existing hunt code to extend the hunt's duration.

For hunt codes, season dates and weapon choices, as well as all rules and regulations for big-game hunts, please visit the Department's Publications web page and click on the 2026-2027 Hunting Rules and Information Booklet.
