MORA, N.M. – The New Mexico State Parks Division will open a newly constructed campground at Coyote Creek State Park on Saturday, March 28, adding the first cabin accommodations in the Division's 93-year history and introducing modern camping amenities designed to improve access for a wider range of visitors. 

The new campground includes five recreational vehicle (RV) sites with modern shelters, electricity and water hookups, including one accessible site. The new Aserradero (Spanish for sawmill) Loop also includes five cabins, including one that is fully accessible. All cabins include electric power, interior lighting, wood stoves and a dedicated water hydrant.

"We're not just expanding overnight options; we are creating new and modern opportunities for individuals and families to experience their state parks—from beginners to people of all abilities." 

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will begin at noon on March 28, followed by the Mora Creative Council's third annual egg hunt at 1 p.m. New Mexico families and members of the media are invited to attend the ceremony and preview the updated campground and cabins. "By investing in inclusive outdoor infrastructure, we strengthen families, support small businesses, and build a more vibrant and connected community." 

The cabins and new RV sites will be available for reservation through the New Mexico State Parks online reservation system starting April 1 at newmexicostateparks.reserveamerica.com. 

The total project cost was $3,873,585, including $1,675,000 in funds from the Land and Water Conservation Fund and $2,198,585 in state funding. Spears Horn Architects served as the prime architect, and Franken Construction was the contractor on record.
