Santa Fe, NM — With a Governor's race, House seats, and statewide offices on the ballot in just weeks, New Mexico Democrats are running from their record instead of running on it.
Rather than talk about the issues New Mexicans actually care about, Democrats have shifted the conversation to hot-button political flashpoints like ICE enforcement and abortion. The timing is no accident. It's a deliberate attempt to scare voters and change the subject before Election Day.
"New Mexicans aren't falling for it," said Senator Larry Scott (R-Hobbs). "Voters know exactly the extent of the damage caused by one-party Democrat rule in this state. We're last in virtually every positive ranking and first in every negative ranking. That's not a talking point. That's the sad reality we as New Mexicans experience on a daily basis."
For years, Democrat leadership has failed New Mexicans on crime, education, the economy, and government accountability. Now, weeks before an election that will shape the state's future, Democrats want voters to talk about anything but that.
"This is fear-mongering, plain and simple," said Senator Scott. "Democrats can't defend their own track record, so they're manufacturing outrage instead. New Mexicans see right through it."
The NM Senate Republican Caucus is calling on Democrat candidates up and down the ballot to stop the distractions and answer for their record: the results New Mexicans have lived with for years, not the political theater rolled out weeks before an election.
New Mexicans deserve leaders who will be honest about the state's problems and serious about fixing them. This November, voters have a choice between more distraction or real accountability.
