Construction anticipated to begin in early 2027
SOCORRO COUNTY, N.M. - Construction on the Interstate 25 Nogal Canyon Bridge Replacement Project is expected to begin in early 2027, with one lane of traffic in each direction remaining open throughout the project under a phased traffic control plan.
This project will replace the existing Interstate 25 bridges over Nogal Canyon in Socorro County, improving the long-term safety, reliability and resiliency of this vital transportation corridor for the traveling public, commercial freight and regional connectivity.
To minimize travel disruptions during construction, NMDOT plans to keep I-25 open in both directions throughout the project. Construction will be completed in phases, with one lane of traffic maintained in each direction through temporary traffic shifts. Motorists should expect reduced speed limits, lane shifts and active work zones during construction.
NMDOT encourages motorists, commercial carriers, emergency responders, local agencies and other stakeholders to review the proposed traffic control plan and stay informed as the project progresses.

About the Project
The I-25 Nogal Canyon Bridge Replacement Project is funded through the Federal Highway Administration's Bridge Investment Program. The project will replace the aging bridges with modern structures designed to improve safety, reliability and long-term performance along one of New Mexico's primary transportation corridors.
