The town of Bayard held a regular meeting August 26, 2024. Attendance included Mayor John L. Ojinaga, Mayor Pro Tem Eloy Medina, Councilors Frances Gonzales and Eloy Gonzales. Gilbert Ortiz didn't attend. Martha Salas, city clerk/treasurer also attended.
Consent agenda
The council approved the consent agenda that included minutes, reports and accounts payable. The consent agenda also included two trainings for Salas and Tanya Ortiz, deputy clerk, to attend. One would provide certifications needed by both and the other would provide them the current updates in state requirements.
New business

The Village of Santa Clara held a regular meeting August 22, 2024. Mayor Arnold Lopez called the meeting to order. Mayor Pro Tem Albert Esparza, trustees, Peter Erickson and Ralph Trujillo attended. Olga Amador didn't attend.
Mayors report
Lopez had met with the new director for the senior citizen center. They will be continuing what they have been doing but want to improve the services offered to the mining district. They plan w to add more events like bingo on Fridays with lunch and he had a flyer to give out. Lopez said all were welcome but needed to register and said Silver City had been invited also. He went over some of the other events they talked about.

The town of Hurley held a regular meeting August 13, 2024. Attendance to the meeting included Mayor Ed Stevens, Mayor Pro Tem Nanette Day, councilors, Reynaldo Maynes and Keana Huerta. James Langley did not attend.
Public Input
Gabe Ramos attended to give public comment.
The council approved the consent agenda. The agenda included meeting minutes, maintenance report, deputy clerks report, fire department report, animal control report, code enforcement report, police report, judges report and library report.

Pinos Altos Volunteer Fire Department and Silver City Fire Department personnel rolled on a smoke report from the Wendy Road area off Highway 15, Thursday afternoon, Sept. 12, 2024, about 4 p.m.
According to Jay Goats, Swan Street Station Battalion Chief; Ed Downard, PAVFD Department Chief; and Jennifer Olson, Public Information Officer of the PAVFD, crews located the blaze in the Wendy Road, Rocky Creek Road, and Owl Hoot Trail area south of Pinos Altos. It was caused by a person, with a burn permit, burning brush.

A small, contained, electrical fire in or near the ice cream freezer at Walmart sparked dispatch of the Silver City Fire Department to the store at 10:20 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2024. According to SCFD Chief Milo Lambert, although flames were present, the fire was extinguished rapidly before the overhead sprinklers had a chance to go off.
Lambert gave kudos to the Walmart staff who had the building evacuated of customers and staff prior to the arrival of SCFD. Lambert said, "It was the best job of evacuation, very smooth and competent, allowing my firefighters easy access to all areas." Nine SCFD members rolled on the fire.

At a community conversation addressing fire, Rep. Luis Terrazas brought together representatives of area municipalities, Grant County, volunteer fire departments, municipal fire departments and representatives from federal agencies, including the U.S. Forest Service.
Terrazas opened the community conversation by thanking everyone in attendance. He noted recent news had featured not only the Rodeo Road fire locally, but the wildfires in Ruidoso.
