Party Perspectives: A Conversation on the Issues

The Western Institute of Lifelong Learning (WILL) invites the community to join us on September 16 at noon for "Party Perspectives: A Conversation on the Issues," a moderated conversation featuring representatives from the Grant County Republican and Democratic Parties. The event—which takes place at WNMU's Global Resource Center—is part of WILL's Lunch and Learn series and is inspired by our Informed Citizens curriculum.
Moderated by WILL Executive Director Mary O. Parker, the program is designed to foster respectful dialogue, thoughtful conversation, and a deeper understanding of different perspectives. This is not a debate. Instead, Party Perspectives will provide a structured, civil exchange focused on issues that matter to Grant County residents.
As a nonprofit organization, WILL's role will remain neutral throughout the event. WILL does not subscribe to or support any political party or viewpoint. It does, however, advocate fostering community.
The representative from the participating parties will respond to six questions. Each representative answers the same questions under the same time limit. Two questions have been submitted by both participating parties, and an additional two have been developed by WILL. Speakers will alternate who responds first, with five minutes allotted for each response.
The goal of Party Perspectives is to encourage informed civic engagement by creating space for respectful conversation, thoughtful listening, and a greater appreciation of both shared values and differing viewpoints. Community members are invited to attend, learn and leave with a broader understanding of the issues and the importance of constructive public discourse. (NOTE: The event will not include audience participation.)
