Santa Fe – Today, the House of Representatives announced the formation of a Capital Outlay Subcommittee. The subcommittee of the House Taxation and Revenue Committee will be chaired by the House Democratic Whip, Rep. Doreen Gallegos (D-Las Cruces).

"I am very pleased to announce that the House of Representatives has created a subcommittee that will focus on capital outlay," said House Democratic Whip, Rep. Doreen Gallegos (D-Las Cruces). "The purpose of this subcommittee is to help identify and fund large scale infrastructure projects throughout the state. The goal is to get shovel-ready projects up and running that impact communities through spurred job growth, business opportunities, and improved living and working conditions for all New Mexicans."

The committee will take into consideration geographical representation of projects. The projects that the committee identifies will be funded from a one-time $80 million appropriation. Members will be invited to present projects to the Subcommittee over the next several weeks. Meetings will be announced and open to the public. Representatives Doreen Gallegos (D-Las Cruces), Susan Herrera (D-Embudo), Christine Chandler (D-Los Alamas), Jason Harper (R-Rio Rancho), and James Strickler (R-Farmington) have been appointed to the committee.
