1. DEMOCRAT PUSHES BILL THAT HURTS BUSINESSES FOR LEGALLY DOING WORK WITH FEDERAL GOVERNMENT

Early in the session, Democrat State Representative Angelica Rubio introduced House Bill 287, entitled "No Use of State Resources for Border Wall." Not only would the bill prohibit the state from providing state land for the construction of the border wall, but it would also prohibit ANY state resources from being used for ANY kind of barrier (wall, fencing, etc) to stop illegal immigration and drug and human trafficking.

If passed into law, this ill-conceived bill would prohibit the state from contracting with any business that currently has or in the past has done work for the federal government on border security. In other words, if you've LEGALLY contracted for work with the federal government, you can't do business with the State of New Mexico!

If it isn't enough for Democrats to deny reality and dismiss concerns of real New Mexicans actually living on the border that a border crisis does indeed exist, now they are trying to make New Mexico businesses feel the pain.

The Republican Party of New Mexico strongly opposes this bill as it would not only harm our national security but also hurt businesses, both small and large, in New Mexico.

2. COMMITTEE HEARING FOR BILL THAT WOULD END TRAPPING ON STATE LAND CONTINUES TOMORROW

As we told you yesterday in a special alert, the House Energy, Environment and Natural Resources Committee heard House Bill 366, aka the "Wildlife Protection and Public Safety Act."

Supporters and opponents packed the committee room as the committee heard took public comment on the bill, which would cause financial harm to New Mexico's ranchers and cattle growers if the population of wild predators like coyotes is allowed to get out of control.

Bill hearing continues tomorrow (Saturday) at 9:00 am in Room 309.
