Bill further protects dangerous and unregulated abortion industry

SANTA FE — Today, the Senate passed Senate Bill 13 on a 26-16 vote with all Republicans and one Democrat voting against the measure. The bill shelters abortion and gender-affirming providers from legal ramifications.

Senator Gregg Schmedes, M.D. (R-Tijeras), issued the following statement regarding the passage of the bill:

"We continue to pass laws that are constitutionally questionable to the detriment of the health and well-being of our citizens. This bill prohibits the sharing of information and derails the development of standards of care by squashing open debate. I expect lawsuits to follow and taxpayers to foot the bill for costly litigation."

Senate Bill 13 will now be sent to the House of Representatives.
