The Western New Mexico Lady Mustangs visited Texas A&M-Commerce on Thursday looking for another road win in the Lone Star Conference. Unfortunately the home team had other plans.

The game was tightly contested through the first two quarters but the Lions were able to outscore the Mustangs 14-9 and 16-15 in the 1st and 2nd quarters, respectively, to take a six point lead into the half.

The second half would be much like the first as Texas A&M-Commerce slowly extended their lead to as much as 18 at the eight-minute mark in the 4th quarter. Western would cut into the lead late, but the Mustangs were unable to come all the way back. The Lions would earn the home victory by a final score of 73-60.

Ciara Fields (El Paso, TX/El Dorado) led the Mustangs with 15 points. Cassandra Vickery (Tularosa, NM/Tularosa) and Destiney Johnson (El Paso, Texas/Parkland High School) would add 14 and 10 apiece, while Tatyanna McFarland (Riverside, California/Valley View High School) pulled down 10 boards.

Western will be back in action Saturday afternoon when they continue Lone Star play at Tarleton St. in Stephenville, TX.
