For a decade Coach Mark Coleman has been a fixture on Drag's Court, urging the men's basketball team to victory. He's had ups and downs as has any college coach but he's overseen the return of Mustang basketball to success and a force in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. That vision will soon be gone from the court as Coach announced he will step down as head basketball coach at the end of this season.

Coleman has coached for 28 years including stints at Pitt and Drew University before landing at WNMU 10 years ago taking over a program that was in turmoil both on and off the court. He's guided the program back to success and post season berths. "After 28 years of coaching and 10 years at Western, I am making this year my last to focus on my family and being the Director of Athletics," he said. "I have enjoyed coaching the kids and being around them and being the AD, I still get to have that opportunity in a different way, with more sports and athletes. I also get to spend more time with my five year old son who has begun playing sports himself. I look forward to a successful season and going out the best way possible, by making the playoffs. It's been a lot of fun and I'll miss it, but it's time."

The Mustangs will open the 2012-13 season on November 5 in Las Cruces against NMSU in an exhibition game beginning at 7 pm.
