For the first time ever, Colorado State University Pueblo has won an NCAA playoff game. The RMAC champions and #1 seed in the Super Region 4 bracket defeated the University of Indianapolis in the second round of the post season championship, 28-7. The top seed CSUP received a first round bye. While the T-wolves program is very young, 5 years in existence, they did take the #1 seed into last year's postseason and lost at home in their first game.
The CSUP defense throttled the Greyhounds holding them to just 214 yards of total offense and forcing three turnovers. It was a good thing as Pueblo's offense struggled early. Tied at 7-7 the defense for Pueblo came up with back to back turnovers, one of them inside the opponent's 20 yard line. Following that interception, freshman running back Cameron McDondle ran 11 yards to pay dirt giving Pueblo the 14-7 lead. McDondle had 3 TDs on the day tallying 110 yards on the ground.
The Pack defense continued to dominate in the second half stifling Indianapolis' offense allowing CSUP to dominate the time of possession battle 2 to 1. For their efforts, the pack moves on in the playoffs to host West Texas A&M. The Buffaloes upset #4 ranked and #2 seed Ashland 33-28. This will be the second time the Buffs and Pack have met this season. The teams opened up the 2012 campaign in Pueblo on August 30th. Pueblo came away with a win over the then #25 ranked Buffs, 44-34. West Texas boasts a passing attack that is number two or three in D-II every statistical category to go against the Pack's top ranked defense. The teams will face off this Saturday at noon.
