Alyssa Lopez, Jr guard from New Mexico Highlands was named the RMAC Offensive Player of the Week as she helped the Cowgirls get off to a 2-0 start in conference play this past weekend. Lopez led NMHU to a pair of home wins over Colorado Christian and Colorado School of Mines hitting for 24 points in both games on 15-28 shooting for the weekend. She hit 5-8 from downtown and was solid from the free throw line hitting 76.5% of her attempts.
Abby Kirchoff, So guard from UC Colorado Springs also led her team to a 2-0 home record against Ft. Lewis and Adams State. Kirchoff had 7 rebounds and 6 steals to go with 25 points against defending RMAC champs Ft. Lewis on Friday night. All of those totals were game highs. She got another 4 steals and game high 6 boards in the win against Adams.
Five teams were perfect in RMAC play over the weekend. In addition to NMHU and Colorado Springs, CSU Pueblo, Colorado Mesa and Regis University were undefeated in opening weekend play in the RMAC. Regis is 1-0 while the other teams are 2-0. None of the RMAC women's teams are currently ranked in the top 25 nationally but Metro State, Ft. Lewis, Colorado Mesa and CSU-Pueblo are all receiving votes in the polls.
WNMU's women's team will visit Colorado Mesa and Western State this weekend. Games can be seen on America One online.
