Senior Wide Receiver Marquis Sumpter, a pre-season All America pick was honored this week by BSN as an All American. Marquis was named to BSN's third team. Sumpter was the team leader in receptions (74), receiving yards (1180), yards per catch (15.9), TDs (13) and average yards per game (107.3). Sumpter also led the RMAC in those categories and ranked 11th in the NCAA in total receiving yards, 22nd in receptions per game and 9th in receiving yards per game. Sumpter's efforts helped the Mustang offense become one of the most prolific in the nation ranking in the top 5 of most offensive categories for most of the season.
Sumpter will graduate from WNMU in the spring. Meantime he will be participating in some post season bowl games, including the Cactus Bowl in Mexico and will attend scouting combines designed to showcase talent from the NCAA division two and three classifications. The combines are attended by scouts and agents from the NFL and other pro leagues.
