Silver City REALTORS® Support First Time Buyers at August 4 Bootcamp
The Silver City Regional Association of REALTORS® was proud to help host a successful First Time Homebuyer Bootcamp on August 4, welcoming fourteen local residents for an evening of practical guidance and clear, supportive information about the homebuying process. Kim Clark opened the session with a warm welcome before lenders Carlos Lucero and Patricia Lewis walked attendees through affordability, budgeting, credit basics, and what lenders look for — a segment that earned some of the strongest feedback of the night.
Carlos Lucero and Patricia also broke down loan types, DTI, and pre-approval, helping buyers understand the differences between FHA, USDA, VA, and Conventional loans. A highlight came when Patricia introduced Housing NM's FirstHome and FirstDown programs, with many attendees noting how valuable it was to learn about down payment assistance available in New Mexico. Priscilla Lucero added that more Housing NM programs are on the way.
REALTOR® Cassie Carver provided a practical overview of the home search process, writing competitive offers, and negotiating with confidence. The evening wrapped with a full panel discussion on inspections, appraisals, and closing, followed by an open Q&A that allowed attendees to get honest, straightforward answers from every presenter.
Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with participants sharing that they left feeling more confident and better prepared for their homebuying journey. This event was made possible through the collaboration of the Grant County Housing Partners — the Southwest New Mexico Council of Governments, the Silver City Regional Association of REALTORS®, and the Copper Collaborative — all committed to supporting informed, accessible homeownership in our community.
