City of Bayard

Chief of Police

The City of Bayard is accepting applications for the position of Chief of Police. Applicant must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, strong community leadership and interpersonal characteristics and solid planning and decision making abilities. The Chief is responsible for a department encompassing all aspects of municipal law enforcement including patrol, investigations, telecommunications, policing and management functions including staffing, budgeting, purchasing, coordinating training and preparation of reports. Applicant must be certified with the New Mexico Department of Public Safety, hold an Associate Degree in Administration of Justice or Police Science or equivalent combination of education and experience. Five years of experience in a supervisory position. Must provide a copy of education diploma and valid New Mexico driver's license. Applicant must be free of physical impairments that would prevent performance of duties. Applicants will undergo thorough background investigations, interviews and psychological testing, as well as a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.
