{{/_source.additionalInfo}}Republican Party of New Mexico (RPNM) Chairwoman Amy Barela released the following statement in response to Attorney General Raul Torrez filing a lawsuit.
NEW MEXICO JULY 16 - The Republican Party of New Mexico stands with President Trump in his effort to end reckless federal spending that prioritizes radical agendas over the real needs of American children. President Trump has long warned that he will cut funding for programs that promote DEI indoctrination and that cater to illegal immigrants at the expense of our students and our communities. We support this measure because we believe it will help secure the long-term viability of education programs that put New Mexico children first.
The importance of the police blotters can be reduced to three simple reasons:
• Public safety by awareness of criminal activity;
• Information provided that may assist in apprehension; and
• Reports of judicial action taken which allows for evaluation of law enforcement and the court system.

Gila, NM
Santa Fe, NM — Today, State Senator Harold Pope Jr. (D-Albuquerque) announced his 2026 candidacy for Lieutenant Governor. He is a Colorado native who only narrowly won re-election to Senate District 23. This is no surprise, as his work in the legislature has largely promoted progressive ideology. Despite holding radical views out of touch with most New Mexicans, he now thinks he deserves a promotion… New Mexico voters are smarter than this.
In response to the announcement, Senate Republican Leader Bill Sharer (R-Farmington) has issued the following statement:
[Editor's Note: I posted this the first time with ALL of the names of the people who provided information to this letter to the editorial. I was told I could post it as it was written. Then somebody threw a fit and I had to take names off. But I have been reminded that my policy is NOT to publish anonymous letters to the editor, so the letter is gone! People need to follow the submission rules!)
[Editor's Note No. 2: I got permission for someone to be named as the author of the letter, and I redacted other names, except for those in current leadership positions in HMS.]
To whom it may concern,
I was present for the town hall meeting in May, as well as the one that was held last night at the convention center. There were lots of issues that I feel were blanketed just like was mentioned by concerned community members in the last meeting. When asked about the statistics for providers leaving, we all got board member Rusty Tolley stating how well CEO Dan Otero did the research and got the numbers. Dr. Nelson [previous chief medical officer over the residency program] debunked his lies on how to properly get the numbers needed for a facility based on reference to the state level.
Santa Fe, NM — Today, the legislature's Facilities Review Subcommittee considered and approved the construction of a new single-occupancy, gender-neutral restroom on the fourth floor of the New Mexico State Capitol. This addition would not have been necessary if the capitol's progressive policies had not permitted biological males to use the existing women's restroom, leading to numerous complaints by female employees and lawmakers during this spring's legislative session. Furthermore, while this new facility is allegedly designed for those needing special accommodations, the failure of the legislative leadership to change its underlying policy ignores the legitimate concerns of women uncomfortable with men in their restroom.
Dear Editor...Isn't it interesting how New Mexico's behavioral health spending keeps rising (can I say, booming!!!) --- $555 million was just allocated in the latest Santa Fe budget --- and yet New Mexico's 'substance abuse DISORDER' ranking keeps falling --- the latest, from 36th to 44th WORST IN AMERICA (ABQ Journal, Dan Boyd, 6/25/25). U know, it ain't working now, but if we just spend more money, maybe it will???
And reflectively, here in gorgeous Silver City, a behavioral clinic reopens --- yeah!!! --- as the senior centers close???!!! And so it seems: buckets of money for the 'mashed minds' of locals, curdled by NM hallucinogens; but no lunch money, no 'mashed potatoes' for everybody's Abuela.
Republican Party of New Mexico (RPNM) Chairwoman Amy Barela released the following statement in response to the final House passage of President Trump's One, Big, Beautiful Bill.
NEW MEXICO JULY 3 - Today marks a historic victory for every American—and especially for the hardworking families of New Mexico. President Trump and Republican leaders in Congress have delivered the America First promises they campaigned on; the largest middle-class tax cut in U.S. history, strong and permanent border security, and long-overdue cuts to wasteful federal spending riddled with fraud and abuse. This is bold, common-sense leadership in action.
Vow to Keep Fighting for New Mexicans
Santa Fe, N.M. - Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a federal budget bill that will kick over 100,000 New Mexicans off their healthcare and reduce food benefits for half a million people across the state. This legislation will make life harder and more expensive for working families throughout the country, all while giving massive tax breaks to the extremely wealthy and adding trillions to the national deficit.
New Mexico House Democrats issued the following statement in response:
