WarFlagsThe Fort Bayard Historic Preservation Society will hold a dedication ceremony on Saturday, April 12th, followed by an Open House at the Fort Bayard Museum. At 5 p.m. the organization will formally dedicate the Spanish-American War Veterans Flagpole, located at the north end of the parade ground. The pole was recently donated by the Bucky O'Neill Camp #175 of the Sons of Spanish American War Veterans. It was erected in the original concrete base that had been installed at Fort Bayard to honor that war's veterans, around the year 1900.

Following the dedication, the Preservation Society will host an Open House at the Fort Bayard Museum, located in the former commanding doctor's house at Fort Bayard National Historic Landmark. The event will mark the celebration of the re-installation of electricity to the building, which was accomplished with funding provided by the New Mexico State Legislature, through the efforts of the Village of Santa Clara, and local legislators. The event will run until 7 p.m., and will feature light refreshments. Admission is free, donations are welcome. For more information, visit the organization's website at www.historicfortbayard.org.
