Books on Wheels

Glenwood Library is now offering a "Books on Wheels" program to community members who are homebound because of poor health. Those in need can call the library (539-2277) with their requests for books, DVDs and audiobooks and a delivery will be coordinated. Also, if the patron is age 60-plus, they are eligible for meals delivered by the Senior Center.

State Funding for Libraries

The library is encouraging patrons to support the Rural Library Initiative endowment bill by contacting the governor and state legislators. The bill is included in the proposed budget from the Legislative Finance Council, but it it is for $5 million instead of $50 million.

Supporters are going to lobby for the full amount. Any amount has to be passed by the legislature and signed by the governor. If the lower amount is passed, it would mean an annual endowment of $4500 instead of $45,000 for each library. Once an endowment is established.

The statute is SB264. The Joint resolution to put a constitutional amendment on the 2020 ballot is SJR 11.
The proposal will go first to the house as part of the budget bill, HB 2.
