SILVER CITY, N.M., Aug. 4, 2026 — Community Partnership for Children (CPC) is expanding its Curiosity Corners initiative with three new locations — Simply Good Desserts, Birdwell's Vintage Vibes, and Retail Therapy — plus a newly refreshed Corner at Flowers on 11th, which has been updated in place and will not have a separate opening event. Together, the five Corners offer families free, hands-on learning stations woven directly into everyday community life.
Community soft launches will give families an early opportunity to explore the new Curiosity Corners before the official celebrations:
Simply Good Desserts — Wednesday, Aug. 5, beginning at 11 a.m. Birdwell's Vintage Vibes — Wednesday, Aug. 5, beginning at 11 a.m. Retail Therapy — Thursday, Aug. 6, beginning at 11 a.m.
Official Grand Opening celebrations for the three new Curiosity Corners are scheduled for:
Birdwell's Vintage Vibes — Wednesday, Aug. 12 at 3 p.m. Simply Good Desserts — Wednesday, Aug. 12 at 4 p.m. Retail Therapy — Thursday, Aug. 13 at 3:30 p.m.
Curiosity Corners are small, experiential learning stations placed inside local businesses, designed to spark exploration and support early childhood development and community engagement. Each Corner offers simple, open-ended activities that invite children to learn by doing — building, sorting, imagining, and discovering at their own pace.
"Curiosity Corners show that learning can happen anywhere," said Kalah Carrasco, executive director of CPC. "By partnering with local businesses like Simply Good Desserts, Birdwell's Vintage Vibes, Retail Therapy, and Flowers on 11th, we're creating more places where families feel welcomed, supported, and connected."
Families visiting the new and revamped Corners can also participate in the Curiosity Corner Passport, collecting a unique stamp at each of the five locations — Twin Sisters, Flowers on 11th, Simply Good Desserts, Birdwell's Vintage Vibes, and Retail Therapy. Completed passports can be dropped off in the collection box at the CPC office in the front of Watts Hall to claim a prize and be entered into monthly drawings. The Simply Good Desserts, Birdwell's Vintage Vibes, Retail Therapy, Twin Sisters, and Flowers on 11th Corners all carry CPC's message: "Where Gila Waters Flow, Little Minds Grow."
CPC extends special thanks to Flowers on 11th and Twin Sisters, the trailblazers who launched this initiative and showed what a Curiosity Corner could be, and to Simply Good Desserts, Retail Therapy, and Birdwell's Vintage Vibes for opening their doors to the newest Corners. CPC is also grateful to Aaron Kelts for his exceptional craftsmanship and Stephen Lindsey of Future Forge for the beautiful laser engraving that brings each Curiosity Corner to life; and to the Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico, whose grant funding made this expansion possible. Curiosity Corners would not exist without these partners.
CPC invites families, community members, and local businesses to visit during the soft launches, attend the Grand Opening events, and learn how they can join the growing network of Curiosity Corners.
