Silver City, NM, March 29, 2026-- Emma Eileen McKinley, coordinator for the Grant County Community Health Council and the Youth Substance Awareness and Prevention Program with the Center for Health Innovation - Public Health Institute, will be the guest speaker at the April 7th meeting of PFLAG Silver City, 6:00 PM, at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 3845 N. Swan.  The public is invited, and light refreshments will be served.

McKinley will be presenting a program entitled "Let's Go Breathe Together: Nicotine Prevention and Cessation for LGBT+ Individuals." Nicotine and tobacco companies have historically targeted vulnerable populations with their marketing, leading to higher nicotine use among the LGBTQIA+ populations, especially youth. The history and context of tobacco and nicotine use within the LGBTQIA+ community will be explored together, and resources for prevention and cessation will be shared.  During the presentation attendees will participate in developing messaging for nicotine prevention for LGBTQIA+ youth.

"Emma is a very engaging speaker.  She is dedicated to health equity, accessible programming, and inclusivity in the health and prevention spaces," a PFLAG spokesperson said. "Everyone will learn and laugh together."

PFLAG is the nation's largest organization dedicated to supporting, educating, and advocating for LGBTQ+ people and those who love them.  To learn more, go to www.pflag.org  or call 575-590-8797.
