Due to the snowfall that cancelled last week's "Holiday Cheer" First Friday, shoppers gained an extra week to get their Downtown Holiday Passports completed, according to Silver City MainStreet Manager Nick Seibel.

The drawing from completed passport entries for $250 in MainStreet Gift Certificates has been rescheduled for this Saturday, December 10, at 4 pm, at the First Annual New Mexico Tamale Fiesta on Broadway.

"We have had so much interest in the passport promotion this year, and we were deluged with calls Friday afternoon from people anxious that they wouldn't be able to make it downtown for the drawing," Seibel said. "After so many requests, we decided that the only fair option was to postpone the drawing for a week to give everyone a fair shot at the $250 prize."

According to Seibel, Downtown Holiday Passports are still available at participating retailers, and participants returning the card after visiting each business on the list will be entered in the drawing. Passports can be turned in at the Tre Rosat booth at the Tamale Fiesta from 10 am to 4 pm Saturday, or at the gift wrapping table at the Silco Theater from 1 to 4 Saturday afternoon. Everyone turning in a completed passport card will receive a Sounds of Silver City CD and be entered in the drawing.

"Because of the change of date, this year's participants will not need to be present at the drawing in order to win, a change from the rules printed on the passport card," said Nick Seibel, MainStreet manager. "This is a great opportunity to get going on your holiday shopping, and have a chance to win some extra spending money, too."

The downtown luminaria display also planned for last week's First Friday will be held on Christmas Eve. Silver City MainStreet and the Yankie & Texas art galleries welcome the public to stroll downtown after sunset and enjoy the beautiful light display.
"If you're looking for something to do with your family this Christmas Eve, bundle up and come downtown," Seibel said. "This might even turn into a new holiday tradition."
