The Mountain View Neighborhood Watch placed boxes at Wal-Mart and at the Church of the Nazarene on Mountain View Road. The Watch collected 32 coats between the two locations. Bill Alveari, the chairperson for the Watch, said "Although the Watch became involved a little late in the program, there was still a good turnout in coat donations." Bill also said "The Watch looks forward to being involved in more charitable events in the future." This year, with a last minute push by citizens, the drop offs at the Silver City Police Department collected about 80 coats! Chief Ed Reynolds said "Both Bill and I want to thank all those who donated coats this year and helped to make the drive a great success!"
The Police Department will have some of the coats/jackets cleaned prior to distribution however, most are in great shape and will be distributed towards the end of this week. The department will distribute the coats to local schools for kids in need. Additionally, if anyone knows a family with children who are in need of coats may call the Silver City Police Department at 575-538-3723.
