Synopsis: Trafficking Controlled Substance, Possession of Controlled Substance, Resisting, Obstructing an Officer, Unlawful Carrying of a Deadly Weapon, Warrant for Aggravated Battery Against a Household Member

Location: 1500 block of North Gold Street, Silver City, New Mexico

Suspect: Orlando Vigil
Age: 46

Narrative:

On Sunday, November 20, 2011 at 9:00 AM officers of the Silver City Police Department were on patrol in 1500 block of North Gold Street when they observed Orlando Vigil standing in a yard. The officers were aware of an arrest warrant for Mr. Vigil's arrest.

When officers stopped, Mr. Vigil took off running towards the back of the residence where he jumped a fence and ran into the Big Ditch. Officers began searching the ditch and found Mr. Vigil hiding in some bushes. When Mr. Vigil was found he began to run again and was caught at a residence on the 1400 block of North Corbin Street. During the foot pursuit, officers observed Mr. Vigil discard a tan jacket and a tan vest.

When Mr. Vigil was taken into custody, a small baggie containing a green leafy substance was found lying on the ground where he was laying. While being handcuffed and searched, Mr. Vigil had a .25 auto caliber round in his pocket.

Officers retrieved the tan jacket and vest that Mr. Vigil had discarded. In the pocket of the tan jacket officers found a .25 auto caliber silver handgun with black grips. Officers also found a plastic baggie containing a green leafy substance lying on the ground next to the tan jacket. Officers also found a metal silver container containing eleven jeweler's type bags with a white crystal type substance in each one.

Orlando Vigil was taken to Grant County Detention Center were he is being held under a $23,600.00 bond.
