Synopsis: Traffic Crash with Injuries

Narrative:
On Saturday, October 8, 2011 at 3:54 AM officers of the Silver City Police Department responded to a traffic crash with injuries just north of the intersection of Pinos Altos Rd. and Pine Street.
Upon officer's arrival, they observed a 2007 White Chevy Truck on the east side of Pinos Altos Rd facing in a northeasterly direction with the driver, Carlos J. Silvas still in vehicle.
The officer's investigation reveals that the vehicle was traveling northbound on Pinos Altos Rd. at a high rate of speed. Driver attempted to negotiate a left hand curve at the intersection of Pinos Altos Rd and Pine Street. Due to the speed of vehicle driver lost control of vehicle and drove off the east side of roadway, struck a dirt mound and became airborne. While airborne vehicle struck telephone pole, shearing the pole in two. Vehicle then rolled unknown number of times and came to rest facing in a northeasterly direction.
Driver had to be extricated from vehicle by EMS personnel. Mr. Silvas was transport to Gila Regional Medical Center. Mr. Silvas was then transported to El Paso by air ambulance.
The investigation reveals that alcohol was a factor in this crash. Mr. Silvas has been charged with DWI and Reckless Driving.
