Narrative:

On Tuesday, October 18, 2011, officers of the Silver City Police Department were in Lillian Canas's pre-kindergarten class at Western New Mexico University. The officers finger printed the children using a Child Identification Kit which contains space for finger prints, a DNA sample, photograph, dental records chart and physical description of the child. Once the officer completes the finger prints, the ID kit is given to the parents to complete and to keep it in a safe place.

"The Child Identification Kit is a great way to store information about your child that will assist Law Enforcement in identifying a lost or kidnapped child when they are found," Chief Reynolds stated. "As the child ages they will still possess the same DNA and finger prints that they had when they were young children", said Chief Reynolds.

The Silver City Police Department will be holding a finger printing clinic at Walmart on Saturday, October 22, 2011 from 10:00 AM till 12:00 noon and again on Saturday, October 29 from 1:00PM till 3:00 PM. Child Identification Kits will be available free of charge.

Silver City Police Department officers and members of Western New Mexico University Criminal Justice Club will be on hand to finger print the children and answer any questions parents may have.
